How We Started

‘One night, at the age of five, I awoke to discover my father had died in his sleep of a heart attack. As a young child grappling with the complexity of grief, I suppressed the sense of loss and grew up with a mentality to live life with vitality and ‘seize the day’.

Then in 2005, at the height of my career in HK, I collapsed at work with a crushing chest pain. My heart felt as if it had left my body. With a profound fear that I’d inherited my father’s condition, I foresaw my own two children growing up without a mother.
I simply couldn’t die young.

After endless testing with eminent cardiologists, I was told that to strengthen my heart and outlive my father, I had to give my cardio a daily workout. So I began, tentatively at first, then obsessively, but the classes were militaristic. It felt like fun was banned.

This is how XYZ came about. I wanted to radically rethink the entire concept of group exercise. I wanted to create a performance in a unique space that each and every one of us has to participate in to make it complete. XYZ is a rare denizen of positive energy. It’s a place for release and to manifest while improving your cardio fitness and overall body strength. HK moves at electrifying speed. We all need a cave here and there to regroup and to find ourselves.

I’ve learned the hard way that a strong cardio system leads to sharper concentration, brain focus stamina and makes us all quicker on the ball. So do as my doctor said. Give yourself 50 minutes each day. We are all born to move.’
