Yoga Breathing

Breath is the one part of your physiology you can control on demand, and a yoga breathing class teaches you how. At XYZ in Central, Hong Kong, every class links movement to the breath in our infrared heated room, where warmth loosens the ribcage and slows everything down. Deep House Flow leads the way, pairing breath led vinyasa with Deep House and electronic music. Move directly under the heat panels for a full body sweat, or choose a cooler spot for a quieter practice. All classes are open level.

What Is a Yoga Breathing Class?

A yoga breathing class puts the breath at the centre of the practice rather than treating it as background noise. Every movement is timed to an inhale or an exhale, and dedicated breathwork sequences give you tools you can use long after you leave the mat.

The mechanism is not mystical. Slow, extended exhales stimulate the vagus nerve and shift the body out of a stress response and into recovery. Longer inhales through the nose improve oxygen exchange and rib mobility. Matching breath to movement occupies attention completely, which is why a busy mind quiets faster in a breath led class than in a silent one.

Two things happen at once. Physically, you build capacity, control, and better posture through the upper body. Mentally, you gain a reliable way to downshift, whether that is before a presentation, after a difficult day, or at 2am when sleep will not arrive.

Deep House Flow

Breath led movement meets Deep House and electronic music. Expect a dynamic vinyasa flow that builds strength, balance, and flexibility, with options for every level. The music sets the tempo, the breath sets the rhythm, and the two lock together into something closer to a moving meditation than a workout. Great for anyone chasing a mindful sweat and a playlist driven class.

Flow

A vinyasa based practice where you drop into the body by moving with the breath. We focus on fluidity and motion while working up a good sweat, building strength, stability, and flexibility along the way. Ideal if you want the breath work of Deep House Flow at a more traditional pace.

Slow Flow

Slow Flow is a gentle flow with a focus on mindful transitions and strong alignment. Expect a steady pace, plenty of modifications, and longer moments to breathe. The slower tempo makes it far easier to actually feel the connection between breath and movement, which is why it suits people new to breath led practice.

De Stress Yoga

De Stress Yoga is a calming class focused on relaxation, gentle stretching, and breathwork that releases tension and resets your nervous system. Expect restorative poses and a slow pace, ideal if you want yoga for anxiety, better sleep, or an easy way to unwind after work.

Restore & Sound Healing

Unplug with a calming sound bath that finishes with crystal singing bowls. Expect gentle movement, breathwork, and deep relaxation to support stress relief, recovery, and better sleep. A perfect breathing class in Central for a full nervous system reset.

Yoga Breathing Classes at XYZ

Several classes on our schedule build the practice around the breath. All of them run in our infrared heated room and all of them are open level, with modifications offered throughout.

Yoga Breathing Exercises You Will Practise

You do not need to memorise anything in advance. Instructors introduce and cue each technique during class, and every one of them travels with you.

Ujjayi breathing

A soft constriction at the back of the throat creates an audible, ocean like sound that regulates pace through a flowing sequence.

Diaphragmatic breathing

Breathing into the belly rather than the upper chest, which reverses the shallow pattern most desk work produces.

Extended exhale

Making the out breath longer than the in breath, the fastest reliable route into the parasympathetic nervous system.

Box breathing

Equal counts in, hold, out, hold. Useful before anything demanding, and easy to do at your desk.

Breath to movement pairing

Learning which shapes open on an inhale and which fold on an exhale, so the sequence stops feeling arbitrary.

Over a few weeks these stop being class exercises and start being habits. That transfer is the real value of a regular practice.

Conventional hot yoga heats the air, which is exactly what makes a heated room feel hard to breathe in. Our infrared panels warm your body directly instead, so the air stays noticeably lighter while the muscle around your ribcage and upper back still gets the benefit of warmth.

  • Warm intercostal muscles allow fuller rib expansion, so each inhale reaches further
  • Relaxed shoulders and neck stop the upper chest from doing work the diaphragm should be doing
  • Position your mat under the panels for maximum heat, or away from them for a cooler, calmer session
  • Move mid class if the intensity is not right for you
  • Hydrate through the day rather than relying on sips during class

Because the room sits at 35 to 40°C and you choose your own exposure, nobody is locked into an experience they did not sign up for.

How the Infrared Room Supports Your Breathing

What to Expect at Your First Breathing Class

Arrive 15 minutes early to settle, set up your mat, and meet your instructor, as latecomers cannot be admitted once class begins. Phones stay in the lockers, so build in the buffer.

Every class is open level and led by our experienced instructors, who offer clear guidance and modifications so nobody feels left behind. Wear comfortable, form fitting clothing that will not slide when you sweat. Mats, props, and filtered water are all provided.

If a breathing pattern feels forced, return to a normal breath and pick the technique back up when you are ready. Nothing about breathwork should leave you lightheaded or straining, and instructors would always rather you paused than pushed.

FAQs About Yoga Breathing Classes

Do I need breathwork experience to join?

None at all. Instructors introduce each technique from scratch and cue it throughout the class, so you learn by doing rather than by studying beforehand. Mention it when you arrive if it is your first class.

Slow breathing with a long exhale is one of the most direct ways to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is why people often feel calmer within minutes. It is a genuine tool for managing everyday stress, though it is not a substitute for professional care where that is needed.
Most people find our room considerably easier than a conventional hot yoga studio. Infrared warms your body rather than the air, so the air itself stays breathable even at 35 to 40°C, and you can always move to a cooler spot.
Yes, and that is largely the point. Diaphragmatic breathing, extended exhale, and box breathing need no equipment and take two minutes, which makes them easy to use before sleep, before a meeting, or on the MTR.
Leave around two hours after a substantial meal, since deep diaphragmatic breathing and forward folds both compress the abdomen. A light snack an hour beforehand is fine and often helpful.
Speak to your doctor first, then let your instructor know before class begins. Many people with mild respiratory conditions practise comfortably, but techniques involving breath retention will be adjusted or skipped for you.
